MIRO Forestry and Timber Products generates one of the largest volumes of Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) Credits on the African continent

Since 2009, Miro Forestry and Timber Products has established over 20,000 hectares of forest on degraded lands in Ghana and Sierra Leone, planting over 20 million trees and now employing 3000 people as a major contributor to rural employment.

Over the last five years, the company has planted more new land to forestry than any other group on the African continent. Now producing plywood, edge glue boards and utility transmission poles from these commercial forests, it is the only vertically-integrated plywood business in West Africa, producing high quality plywood for the growing West African market and for export. With globally low-cost forestry operations and an experienced team, the company consistently supplies customers with a quality competitively-priced product and service.

Andrew Collins, Founder of MIRO, expands the MIRO story, “On the environmental front, Miro has c.200,000 tonnes of carbon credits available per annum from its existing plantations and has a large pipeline of indigenous afforestation projects generating credits over a 30-year period. As MIRO’slarge new forest area grows, it sequesters atmospheric carbon dioxide helping to reduce the primary cause of global warming. As a result, Miro is generating one of the largest volumes of Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) Credits on the African continent, which are secured by major corporates in order to offset their carbon emissions. We haveestablished this large forest plantation area on degraded land sites to provide sustainable wood-flow for our production of plywood, poles, sawn timber and biomass.

Our plantations are Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™) certified meaning we voluntarily comply with the international gold standard of responsible forest management. We aim to conform to high environmental, ethical, financial and social standards, and achieve international forestry certification on all plantations. We also aim to be the preferred partner for local communities, the national government, and international development and finance.

The products are sold worldwide, direct to end customers, such as merchants, formwork specialist and construction companies, as well as bulk importers; all are made in Miro’s factories which are located adjacent to the timber plantations.
